School Advisory Council

Mission Statement
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a consultative body of caring parents and administrators who are committed to St Peter Cathedral School. The council serves to support and assist the Principal and Pastor, for the good of the school community. SAC serves in an advisory capacity in several areas including: school policy, finance, strategic planning, operational effectiveness, building maintenance, and the promotion of Catholic education. The council acts as the liaison between the community of St. Peter Cathedral School and the school administration. SAC strives to increase communication, support and improve the learning environment, and secure the future success of the school.

  • 1 Teacher representative selected by the Principal or Pastor, 1 Year Term
  • Parish Pastor (Ex-Officio)


Selection process:
Parent representatives are elected based on nominations submitted by school parents. Each parent representative serves for at least 2 years and is the chair person of at least one of the sub committees of the council: Advancement, Athletics, Educational Support, and the Steering Committee / Buildings and Grounds.

Criteria for Membership

Persons nominated for membership and serving on the School Advisory Council shall:

  1. Have interest in and commitment to Catholic education and to St. Peter Cathedral School’s philosophy and mission.
  2. Be available to attend meetings and periodic in-service programs and to participate in committee work.
  3. Maintain high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
  4. Deal with situations as they relate to the good of the entire School community.
  5. Be a credible witness of the Catholic faith (or to that member’s own faith) to the School community and beyond.
  6. Not be a family member of an employee of the School.

Advancement Committee
SAC Liaison:

  • Partner with SPCS Advancement Director to work on projects that will ensure the spiritual and academic growth of the current and future students of SPCS.
  • Promote public relations and marketing strategy for promotion of school successes, student recruitment and retention, general marketing concerns to aid in fund raising and increase enrollment targeted for 3 year, 5 year and 10 year calendars.

  • Special projects
  • Bring Alumni Professionals back to school
  • Develop projects/events to involve our parish in the school

Athletics Committee
 SAC Liaison:
Beth MacArthur

  • Assist in and enhance the traditional and nontraditional School athletic programs. Areas of responsibility may include:
    • Assist in the development or revision of athletic policies
    • Liaison for SAC with parents, the Athletic Director and coaches.
    • Assist Boosters organization for team spiritual and financial support
    • Coordinate parent representative activity for teams and athletic related activities i.e. cheerleading, equipment needs.
    • Assist in nontraditional team organization and operation
    • Monitor, with the Building and Grounds Committee, the facility upkeep related to athletic programs.
    • Promote and support current athletic teams.

Educational Support Committee:
 SAC Liaison: Emily Hutchinson

  • Enhance, support and nurture the academic, social, spiritual, artistic and physical development of the students. The committee’s focus should be upon some of the following areas:
    • Coordinate Open House (with CAPE)
    • Coordinate Scholastic Book Fair
    • Continue School traditions for teacher appreciation of their dedication to students and the education (with CAPE).
    • Maintain an accurate and complete list of parent volunteers and friends of St. Peter Cathedral School who have offered their skills, talents, and time to help the school with special projects, programs, or improvements to the school.
    • Careers/talents for classroom presentations
    • Careers/talents for project assistance
    • Library Inventory Expansion
    • Expand the library inventory thru donation program
    • Field Trip Options - Research
    • Foreign Language – Research

Steering Committee
SAC Liaison: Patty Bloomstine & Kyle Hardner

  • Strategic Planning/Finance
  • School Improvement Plan (SIP)
  • Develop Strategic Plan for the school
  • Define objectives
  • Incorporate short term and long term goals into schedule / timeline to meet objectives
  • Assist in development of policies regarding finance and tuition related concerns and programs for the School
  • Develop budget required for completion of goals.
  • Buildings and Grounds
  • Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring a maintenance and improvement plan for the School building and grounds. Examples of current concerns are:
    • Student Technology Center
    • Structural upkeep and renovations
    • Preschool options
    • Third floor development/repair to implement into school uses
    • Gym use and maintenance
    • Landscape upkeep and overall facility maintenance program
    • Maintain Campus Walk Thru Report
    • Define Short Term Projects
    • Summer Repair & Maintenance Schedule
    • Exterior building upgrades
    • Recruit volunteers
    • Define Long Term projects
    • Develop Timelines
    • Define funding required
    • Coordinate project funding

We meet in the school cafeteria on the first Thursday of each month during the school year and are always available & receptive to receive your feedback.
